Flat owner booked as worker falls from 5th-floor apartment in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: A 40-year-old woman has been booked for compromising the safety of an electrician who was fixing an air-conditioner in her fifth-floor flat and fell from it on March 30.
The woman is resident of an apartment complex near Sarjapur Road. Bellandur police registered the FIR on March 31. The electrician, Vishal, 19, is critical at a private hospital.Vishal is employed with an electrical vendor who installs ACs manufactured by a large company. Police have also booked the vendor and the manager of the company under IPC section 338 (endangering human life).
On the fateful day, Vishal, on the directions of his vendor, and his co-worker Syed Bilal went to the fifth-floor flat of the plush apartment to fix the new AC. The flat owner first showed the balcony of the flat, as the AC was to be installed on the wall next to it. After examining the place, both Bilal and Vishal said fixing the AC on the outside wall near the balcony was unsafe as they could slip and fall.
When the woman insisted that the workers install the AC, Vishal refused. The woman is then believed to have called the vendor and yelled at him. A family member of Vishal told TOI that according to Bilal, the woman censured the vendor for sending amateurs for the job and said she would file a complaint with the company. She also spoke to the company manager, who directed the vendor to instruct his men to carry out the work.
According to the family member, the vendor forced Vishal to execute the work. With no go, Vishal got on to the window next to the balcony and was fitting the AC when he slipped and fell to the ground. He was immediately rushed to a hospital.
Police sources said a probe is under way and action would be taken soon.
